Not common : What do you mean aby nervous side effects? Anything in medicine can cause something or some type of side effect. The golden question is : is it common to cause nervous side effectrs and the answer is absolutely not. What i intermittently encountered that metformin can cause shortness of breath which can cause much anxiety.

Yes: Metformin used chronically can deplete B12 - this can cause peripheral neuropathy (lack of sensation and tingling in arms and legs), memory problems, and depression. Zocor (simvastatin) can prompt aching in muscles - a not uncommon side effect.
