About lab tests...: If a person does a lab test that is correct 60% of the time, that may mean the test result is incorrect 40% of the time. If a patient's symptoms and history are suggestive of Lyme disease, a Lyme disease positive test result will be more likely to be a true positive. If symptoms and history are NOT suggestive of Lyme disease, a positive test result has higher chances of being a false positive.

: Lyme Disease IgG is the antibody that is produced from the immune system after the infection has been long gone or continues to persist in the chronic stage. Unfortunately, the test is not at all helpful in determining whether someone has a current infection or a previous infection, and when that previous infection was, and whether it was apparent.

If only one band, no: If only one band, no.  A positive not only requires more than one band, but they have to be specific bands.

Need more info.: Why do you think you have lyme disease?  When was the test done relative to tick exposure?  It takes 2-4 weeks for antibodies to form, which is why lyme disease is often a clinical diagnosis which may be confirmed only later with testing.  The antibody screening test for lyme has a high sensitivity (picks up almost all cases) but lower specificity (non-lyme cases may be positive).

Nothing by itself: A single positive IgG band means nothing. Was the screen positive? How many other IgG and IgM bands were positive? You should discuss all of this with the doctor who ordered the test.

Sandwich assay...yum: Elisa = enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assay.  Done by adding serum from a subject to a plate w/antibody against the infection you're testing for on its surface.  The antigen (or protein) from the infection binds to the antibody on the plate.  Then another antibody to the infection w/color signal chemical attached is added on top and binds to the antigen.  If infection is there color can be measured.

Just show up: You just show up and have your blood drawn. If your Lyme screening test is positive, they will automatically do more specific antibody testing on your blood to determine if you have active Lyme disease.

Wait: It can take at least 2 weeks to seroconvert to a positive titre in your system after a tick bite, so getting a test now, would not be indicative of your recent bites.  Symptoms that soon after a bite would not usually be lymes either.  A bulls eye rash is however indicative of lymes disease, so if that occurs (ecm rash) than call your dr. Sooner, otherwise, get tested at least 2 weeks after bite.
