how long should it take for toddler boys to potty train?

Accepted Answer

Very variable: Some toddlers train by age 18 months, others can take up to 4-years. Toddlers will be toilet trained, by day, when they want to be. Lots of normal toddlers realise that they have something in life about themselves that they can control and then use the potty when they want to.  All this is within normal limits. Please be patient and don't make a fuss. Positive reinforcement works best. Good luck!

Hours: Button batteries can cause significant burns in the esophagus in as little as 2 hours.  Ingestion of a button battery is an emergency that requires immediate evaluation.  A significant burn from a button battery can be fatal, and unfortunately, i've seen it happen.  If you even suspect a battery ingestion, go to the emergency room immediately.

About 3: We like to see little ones about 3 years old.  We'll try to get them to open and clean their teeth.  We won't push the situation and usually x-rays are not taken.
We just want the kids to be comfortable going to the office and seeing the doctor.
Then as they get older we add things like xrays etc.

Why temperature ?: The temperature is often not a good indicator of the seriousness of any problem. I would rather a toddler that won't eat, play or interact with me with no fever come in than the same with a 39 that will. Your gut response to an overall status of any kid should drive that decision rather than a simple number. Without a review of the other factors it has little value.

Normal in toddler: Orthopedic surgeon... Always( for any bone , joint problem of the upper or lower extremity or spine)... Best trained by far. Generally a toddler w/ painless flat feet is normal. In fact, finding a toddler w/out some mild pes planus would be unusual!the opposite ( high arched foot ), would concern me more.

Sleep and breathing: Every one has a different pattern of sleep cycle children do vary if he is not snoring or gasping or waking up he should be ok but if its that audible and you are worried will be a good idea to check with his peds to make sure does not have any breathing related issues adenoids etc
if he is waking up fine and not grumpy and no midnight awakenings things should be ok but better to get a checkup.

Get VACCINATED!: Get the flu vaccine which will include h1n1 in its protection.  The shot is safe and highyl effective at preventing infection and serious issues with flu illness.  Other than that, take simple illness precautions such as good hygiene and hand washing.  Keep fingers out of mouths and keep away from obviously ill contacts.

Naps: A toddler of a year should have two naps a day.
