Effects from local anesthesia (numbing medicine placed at your surgical site) usually last for 4-24 hours.

going for breat lift surgery tomorrow at 12pm. i have to take my birth control pill with a sip of water. obviously i'm on npo for general anesthetic, can i take my pill at 9am with a sip of water?

4 AM to be safe...: Npo guidelines for general anesthesia haven't changed much in the last few years. But, 6-8 hours is definitely sufficient for taking a pill with just a sip of h20. Don't worry and...Don't worry!

Hand surgery: This is a complex question.  Recovery depends on the surgery and the problem.  Hand fractures require approximately 6 weeks for recovery.  Tendons may require longer.  Also comorbidities such as diabetes, etc prolong healing time

Hand Surgery: Ga is used for longer more complicated cases. Many cases, such as carpal tunnel, can be done with local and/or sedation, though there have been papers and presentations by various doctors such as dr. Lalonde of canada who are pushing the boundaries using more minimal anesthesia and absent tourniquets, which up until recently was unheard of for most hand surgery.

Surgery and a Cold: Possibly. Both your anesthesiologist and surgeon will conduct a focused history of this illness and do a physical exam.  They will then assess the risk of undergoing an elective procedure in the face of your current health status. Fever, a productive cough, malaise, reactive/congested airways can increase your risk of complications peri-operatively.

Depends on situation: If surgery was extensive or prolonged, more meds are given during the course of general anesthesia and recovery will take longer. Conditions such as old age or poor function of the liver or kidneys can make medications take longer to wear off.  So it's hard to say how long grogginess will last.  After a short procedure in a healthy patient, the effects of general anesthesia will wear off quickly.

PONV: Post operation nausea and vomiting appears because of narcotics given during surgery, or in recovery, to alleviate the pain after surgery.
Females have more risks then men, obese latine women are at more risk, the ones having that before, or the ones that experienced motion sickness. If you smoke the risk is lower.
