He/she will not: Armour brand dessicated thyroid is no longer the first choice of real thyroidologists to treat hypothyroidism. Be weary of anyone foisting it on you. See a real thyroidologist to find out if you really need any replacement for subclinical hypothyroidism.

done an sgpt test and it says on the result that mine is 66 (ref: 9.00-52 u/l(h). do i need to worry? i am drinking ptu (propylthiouracil) for my thyroidism continuously

PTU (propylthiouracil) and liver : Drugs like ptu (propylthiouracil) and Methimazole can cause liver toxicity but hyperthyroidism can also cause elevation int the liver enzyme test you had done. If your still early in your treatment and your thyroid hormone levels (free t4) is still high it could be that. Hope this helps.

how long does it take to get thyroid test results back? i had my blood taken two weeks ago and haven't heard back from my pcp.

Call the office: Many docs don't call if lab tests are ok.  He/she probably has the results by now..  Please call and find out.  The very best to you.

Get Instructions: The doctor's office or clinic that ordered the tests should provide you with clear printed instructions and explain any part you don't understand. Also, they should be the best source of the info you want about time frame and alopecia. No other source of info is better since no one knows their plan better than they do. Good luck!

May be: If the hospital is large and has their own thyroid pathologist, then it is less than two weeks. If your endocrinologist or hospital send it to mayo clinic or other special lab. Then it can take up to two weeks.

Vitamin D won't help: If you truly have hypothyroidism the treatment is to take thyroid hormone prescribed by a doctor who has reviewed your thyroid test results.  Vitamin d is not the treatment for thyroid problems.

Scan and biopsy: If the patient is sweaty and losing weight hyperthyroidism may be present.  If putting on weight and swelling present pretibially, myxedema may be developing. Thyroxin levels in the system will indicate hyper or hypothyroidism.

Weight Gain: Certainly Thyroid may be causing some of your issues too.  Safely, exercise and dieting with decreased carbs and fats will make you lose, if you burn more calories than you take in, you will lose weight. If you are unable to lose, discuss with your Dr. as approved weight loss meds ar available, but they need to monitored regularly by the Dr., and used with an exercise program and diet as well.

Usually not: Usually, a person with hyperthyroidism has too much thyroid hormone in her body. One would take Synthroid (thyroxine) (synthetic hormone) to make up for a lack of enough thyroid hormone due to HYPOthyroidism. A person with HYPOthyroidism who becomes hyperthyroid due to taking too high of a dose of Synthroid (thyroxine) might be asked to take Synthroid (thyroxine) (at a lower dose) even though she is temporarily hyperthyroid.

Thyroiditis?: If you are referring to autoimmune thyroiditis ( hashimoto's disease)- this at first can cause an overactive thyroid ( hyperthyroidism) followed by decreased thyoid function ( hypothyroidism). You need to have your thyroid hormone levels balance to achieve balance. The medication may be need for a lifetime or the disease can resolve.
