Yes..: Metformin has 4 major mechanisms of action:1) it decreases glucose absorption from the GI tract 2) it inhibits production of glucose by the liver 3), it increases sensitivity of Insulin receptors and it 4)increases fatty acid oxidation. So that should not be an uncommon experience for patients.

Combining a starch with a higher protein food can slow the uptake of simple sugars and reduce the glycemic load. If you are a diabetic be very careful with portion size. Even low glycemic foods can inc glucose.

Glucose starts out as a carbohydrate but is quickly stored as a fat. Rice and wheat are made up of more complex chains of carbohydrates with fewer simple sugars.
