Depression: Long term use of opioids, such as hydrocodone, can cause depression.  Low serotonin levels also cause depression.  If you have a history of depression and are not being treated, use of hydrocodone can make the depression worse.  Theoretically, this could be due to low serotonin levels.

Opiate withdrawal: Day six congratulations! The mental part will be the worst for you: sadness, depression, craving and anxiety.  It can take some time before everything returns to normal, but everyone is different. Try getting an extra support form the AA meetings or from your doctor. Take care.
