Post op issue: All the nerves that go the foot originate in the lower back. It stands to reason that if you had recent surgery there then that is most likely the cause. Consult the surgeon who did your procedure

Have : Have you considered using medical acupuncture as an adjunct to your other forms of treatment? This may be a beneficial addition to the treatment that you are already receiving.

See this: I see this a lot.  People have back surgery, injuries and later develop neuropathy symptoms.  I think it is because people had neuropathy to begin with, and the symptoms were assumed to be due to a pinched nerve(s).  You have to address the neuropathy.  i would see a Neurologist

It depends: I assume you are talking of disc surgery, which the nerve involved.
We have to consider two things.
How chronic the painwas?
How much the nerve injury is?
It may take days?
Few weeks?
It may have residual pain for long time?

Accepted Answer

It varies: It depends on how much irritation there was before surgery, how long it was there, and how much of those tissues were manipulated during that procedure. Many will improve quickly (days to weeks), others take months, and some never fully recover. Follow your surgeon's instructions, and ask questions if your recovery is delayed.

i have just had back surgery to take pressure off my nerves 3 days ago. is it normal to have muscle pain in your leg while it heals?

Yes: It can be normal to have some residual pain in the lower extremity after back surgery. You should notice less intensity in the pain and hopefully less numbness, tingling, weakness, etc. If you notice worsening pain, and changes in bowel/bladder function, worsening numbness/tingling, or other issues, please contact your surgeon.

Depends: Steroids, such as prednisone, can be prescribed when back surgery is performed.  The most common usage is to minimize nerve pain from swelling, but also to assist in nerve recovery in situations with severe pre-op and/or post-op weakness. If prescribed, it is usually for short-term usage. With long-term use, Prednisone may slow wound healing, raise blood sugars, and delay fusion maturation.

i have had back surgery, laminectomy, fusion & rod placement. i have nerve damage & suffer from numbness & tingling as well as pain in my back & legs. i take gabapentin 800mg bid.. i want to add tinazidine 2 mg can i add this and it be safe?

: You almost certainly have post-operative scarring with lumbosacral arachnoiditis, and tizanidine is unlikely to help.  Would consider switching gabapentin (at maximal dose) to Lyrica.  The use of a dorsal column spinal stimulator might be evaluated.  Would go to nearby medical school for updated opinions.

i have 3 herniations dds w/ sciatica and already had 2 back surgeries. it was going well for 1 yr but the neuropathy has returned and in 3 of my toes rt foot for 1st time ever. feels like walking on hot broken glass. what can i do? 
no insurance now

Neuropathy: I'm not sure whether your symptoms are due to a radiculopathy from a herniated disc fragment or whether there is a peripheral neuropathy that's responsible. Without insurance you're not likely to want to pay for an MRI or EMG. Gabapentin may be worth trying empirically for symptom relief.

i had a bunionectomy osteotomy and dislocation surgery 2 weeks ago.how long does it take for the nerve pain to go away.why does it hurt so much?

Bunion: Are you sure it is nerve pain ?  The right first thing to do is to see your surgeon a nerve entrapment is possible .   The pain postop should be largely gone by now.  Again , see your surgeon for any and all concerns.
