i was told to use flonase for six weeks by my ent for swollen turbinates. i have been using it for a week with no success so far. what is the typical time it takes for flonase to start working? i have no polyps or sinus infection?

: It takes an average of 3 days to notice any benefit from nasal steroids. Failure to improve may mean you retain irritating material inside the nose and a nasal washout with a neti pot or similar system. You are trying to get the upper hand on irritants but these need to be removed &amp; avoided to gain the best outcome.

Depends: in acute upper respiratory tract inflammation, might work right away, but in chronic conditions would take about 2-3 days to work, given that it is taken right (right dose and right technique)

How Flonase Works: Flonase is an anti-inflammatory nasal spray. The steroid it contains can decrease swelling of the mucosal membranes of the nose that cover the turbinates. This occurs gradually, and may start as early as a few hours after the first dose and peak around three weeks later. The turbinates themselves are made of cartilage and they do not shrink in response to medication. Surgery can reduce them.

What?: For allergic nasal symptoms such as congestion, Flonase starts to work in about 12 hrs but it takes several more days of daily use to get optimal results.

: While Afrin works by constricting swollen nasal membranes by constricting blood vessels, Flonase works by reducing membrane inflammation &amp; combating allergies. Afrin's effect is immediate but in my experience the Flonase effect on inflammation&amp; allergies may take a few days.

i used flonase last night two sprays in each nostril & i don't like the feeling i got in my ears. how long does it take for medication to wear off?

Maybe a day, but...: Flonase sprayed into the nose should not cause a bad feeling in the ears. If a bad feeling happens, it may be a coincidence. Be sure the Flonase tip is not plugging the entire nostril when spraying. There is not a direct connection from the nostrils to the ears. Sometimes, we try Flonase in sinus-congestion patients to help the ears normalize their pressures if the ears seem pressurized.

had second dose of pfizer 8 days ago can i take my flonase?

: yes, please follow your allergy plan. Avoid common allergens, smoke and use nasal saline, in addition to the Flonase, after discussing with your PCP.

i take flonase twice a day and by accident i took a 3rd dose 30 min after my 2nd dose , will i be okay?

Accepted Answer

: Yes. I wouldn't make it a habit but this won't hurt you. It also does not increase the effect of the med by a measurable amount.
