Six weeks: Most dissolvable sutures will dissolve around 6 weeks, by which time your own body's scar tissue will have formed enough that you do not have to worry about tearing which is why you are usually advised not to do heavy lifting for 6 weeks post-op.  However, the healing continues for months after as the body remodels scar tissue and softens/fades the scar.  It can take 1-2 years.

About a year: Most scar take about a year to fully mature. The reddness may get better but the scar will never fade completely. Protect it from the sun, massage and moisturizer it, pressure and topical silicone may help improve its appearance.

Usually 6 weeks: Skin, muscles & tissues usually heal back to full strength in 6 weeks. Infected wounds take much longer. Skin nerves (numb or tingly near the scar) & final cosmetic appearance of scar may continue to slowly improve for up to a year. You can usually resume full normal activity after 6 weeks, but most women feel like it takes up to 6 months to "get their body back" after childbirth of any kind.

Unable to assess: Its not possible to assess your scar without an exam.  Are you having any problems with the scar such as pain, redness, keloid formation, discharge, etc?   Best wishes!

Uncommon: Sometimes, women feel an incision will "itch" after a c-section.  As long as there aren't any signs of redness or swelling around the incision, it usually just means that the incision is healing.  In your case, it is uncommon for it to itch so many years after surgery.  Speak to your physician and have it examined.

Scar: The C-section scar is located in a sensitive area and can remain sensitive over time for several reasons, pulling onto the fascia, excess scar tissue, skin folds, nerve dysfunction. If massage and local injections of anesthetics don't help, you may want to consider a scar revision.

Pain: Pain in the c-section scar is common. Chronic pain is usually the result of some nerve entrapment. Acute pain could be some spasm of the tissues (muscles). If what you described is ongoing, see your obgyn doc to discuss further work up and treatment options.

Post C/S pain: At about 8 weeks scar has formed. IT is not uncommon to have nerve entrapment especially is the incision was transverse )side to side.

If they are...: Absorbable, they will. If they are permanent, they will have to be removed. If they are not visible, they are probably absorbable. Ask your surgeon to be sure.

how is scar endometriosis treated on your c section scar?

Accepted Answer

Removal: Removal of the endometriosis in the scar depends on the location and depth.  Options include scar surgical revision with assessment of the pelvis for more endometriosis, cautery of the surface endometriosis or application of surface agents. Your treating GYN MD will have to decide on how best to proceed.
