: If I put those symptoms together, a systemic disease is strongly suspected so I would recommend a physical check-up as soon as possible. In the mean time, you need to restrict salt and fluid intake. Definitely no added salt on your foods and limit fluid intake (all sources) to less than 1,200 cc (1.2 liters or 42 oz)/day. Ankle fracture: Given that you have pain and swelling it would be advisable to get an x-ray to evaluate this. Unable to determine if there is a fracture or not based on what you stated.

Fluid retention: Usually comes from one of 4 areas: heart, lungs, liver or kidney. The fluid shows up in the feet due to gravity. The black & blue discoloration may or may not be related to the swelling. Sometimes, the swelling can actually break a few tiny blood vessels to cause the black & blue, but it could be unrelated also. You need to see your doctor asap. Sudden onset of swelling can be serious.

See you doctor: Elevation will help as well as support stockings.  Your doctor may want to put you on medication to help reduce the fluic.

Edema: Many things can cause swelling of the extremities; trauma, problems with veins, heart issues, kidney disease to name a few.  I would recommend evaluation by your physician.  Elevation and compression stockings may be helpful to treat the swollen areas.

You need to be: Evaluated asap by a medical professional. There are many causes of swelling but sudden black or blue feet is not good. It indicates possible clot or possible pooling of blood, or even possible gangrene. 
You should seek immediate medical attention. Better safe than sorry.

Not necessarily: I would certainly be checked to determine the cause.  Having edema in the legs is not usually better than having it in the feet.  If a person is retaining fluid for example, as the condition worsens it goes from just involving the feet to involving the legs as well.  Be seen.
