2-5 wks+/-: Most bell palsy cases will fade within the first 3-4 wks although a percentage (3/20) can have some mild residual weakness &(1/20) may have residual severe facial weakness. I send most of my cases for ENT consult eval early as some rare problems may have similar facial droop.

8->12 weeks: In uncomplicated bell's palsy, you should begin to see some recovery of function in 8->12 weeks. If there is no recovery of function by 12 weeks, re-evaluation by EMG may be necessary.  If the bell's palsy is the result of lymes' disease, treatment of that disorder is imperative for the resolution of the bell's palsy.

dr. i had a bell's palsy last sept. and after a month i can move everything back as normal. i am just wondering why is it that everytime i do jogging, the affected area will be painful including my head and my ear as well. is it normal? thank u

It is not unusual.: It is not uncommon after a nerve injury (such as bell's palsy) to experience the symptoms again during times when the body is under a stress of some sort - so you might experience symptoms when you are ill, not sleeping well, or, as in your case, exercising.

Facial nerve droop: Bell's palsy is a paralysis of the facial nerve on 1 side of the face that will normally cause drooping of the side of the mouth. The facial nerve controls moement of the mouth, cheek and eyelid. The paralysis is noticeable. Sometimes it will resolve rapidly and easily or with steroid treatment. It can also sometimes be permanent.

Usually no recurrenc: If the diagnosis of bell's palsy is correct (i.E no hypertension, diabetes etc) then it normally does not recur.

Unlikely.  : Bell’s Palsy is a condition where one side of the face becomes paralyzed over a period of a day or 2.  Most cases are caused by a herpesvirus infection, including Herpes simplex and Herpes zoster (chickenpox virus). Some cases are caused by the bacteria responsible for Lyme Disease.

Not likely to affect you entire left body.  That may be caused by an entirely different condition. See a doctor
