More discomfort: The td (tetanus and diptheria) is recommended ten years apart in the absence of significant injuries. They're given closer together when indicated for injuries.  The tdap (tetanus, diptheria and pertussis) is recommended as a one time dose for adults. When indicated, the tdap can be given at any interval after the last tetanus containing vaccine. More swelling, pain and fever with closer spacing.

No problem: You didn't need it but having it isn't going to be a problem. Having too many over several months might bring a reaction to one of the components of the vaccine, a flu like serum sickness, but that is unlikely when they are a simple repeat.

: Assume there is no tetanus vaccine the gives people good immunity for more than 15 years. Just plan to get a booster shot every 10 years. Vaccine immunity decreases over time in everyone, but different people decrease at different rates. In the US, for teens who missed some earlier tetanus shots: usually after a third dose, we give a fourth dose 6 months later. Next booster dose is 10 years later.

In general, a 16 year-old who got his third dose 2 weeks ago is fine today, but should check locally to see when his next dose is due.
