BV: This depends upon the particular individual and their immune status, duration of the BV, efficacy of the treatment chosen. Generally you should be seeing results and improvement within several days after initiation of therapy.

Possibly: If not symptom free it could mean that you have clindamycin-resistant strain of the bacteria.  I would see your doctor and discuss possible alternative therapies.  Metronidazole is another choice.  So is the use of probiotics, like Luvena, for example.  Talk to your doctor, consider re-exam to see if clue cells still present.

Flagyl treats many: Unless tests show a particular organism sensitive to clindamycin, skip it.

Antibiotics deplete the gastro-intestinal tract of good bacteria.

Take good quality probiotics.

Clindamycin: Well this depends on the stage of pregnancy! In clinical trials with pregnant women, systemic administration of clindamycin during the second and third trimesters was not associated with an increased frequency of congenital abnormalities. During the first trimester, it is not recommended unless clearly needed.

About 3-5 days: Antibiotic treatment for bacterial vaginosis infections take about 3-5 days to start feeling better.  It is important to finish the whole antibiotic treatment even if the vaginal symptoms go away, or the infection is more likely to return.  Also any antibiotic for BV cures it about 85% of the time, so it doesn't always work.  Sometimes the infection comes back and needs to be treated again.

BV: Bacterial vaginosis is a normal inhabitant of the vagina.  Certain factors such as intercourse, stress, hormonal changes, and concurrent illness can tip the balance and cause symptoms.  I would definitely recommend probiotics such as acidophilus tablets twice daily to increase the healthy bacteria in the vagina.  You can use one applicator of clindamycin after sex for prevention.

i'm currently 12 weeks and 3 days pregnant got prescribed clindamycin for bv...is this safe to take during the first trimester?

Clindamycin ?'s: There are reports of some abnormalities attributed to clindamycin in the first trimester, so check again with your OB physician, as other studies have not confirmed harm in pregnancy for clindamycin.  There are other antibiotics which have no associated problems in pregnancy, but your OB physician is best suited to make this decision.
