Half life not long: Up to 1 hour.  It's not the medication making you feel ill, but the prescribing MD should be notified as soon as you can.

24hours: Half life is 12 hours.  That means the half of the total dose taken will be gone after 12 hours and then another 12 hours 50% from the other half will be gone and so forth.

Chills: Feeling chilled may be related to a rising temperature (fever on the way), particularly if there is vigorous shaking along with it. If your temperature is over 100.5 F (38.0 C) you will likely need something stronger than nitrofurantoin (so seek medical evaluation).

Call your doctor: Macrobid is a treatment for urinary tract infections.  Typical side effects are stomach pain, weakness, and nausea.  One of the several side effects that indicate a need to contact your physician is joint pain.  Call your prescribing physician and report your knee joint pain.

OK to add Azo: to relax your bladder. force fluids and avoid tight undergarments, sexual manipulation and understand that these infection take 7-10 days to resolve.

Macrobid allergy: Yes, this as with all antibiotics and medications, could cause an allergy.  Some allergies are more severe than others. I would stop taking the macrobid immediately and call your doctor. If you have trouble breathing, or worsening of any kind you need to get to an ER fast. Call 911 if any doubts.

Discuss with doc: These are signs of an immediate-type allergic reaction (assuming symptoms occur right after taking the medication) or drug-induced hives. Since an allergic reaction is potentially serious (even deadly), discuss with your doctor. If concern remains based on the discussion, then would recommend taking the next dose in the office or switching. If hives is considered more likely, then use cetirizine.

Unusual reaction: I would double that this is from macrobid, certainly not typical for allergic reactions.
