Should be fine but..: Marijuana has many proven health benefits. I know of no evidence suggesting it would be detrimental  to smoke some 3 days before surgery. But be careful to use cannabis that isn't contaminated with pesticides,mold, heavy metals etc. Be careful re: legalities; while NY allows medical marijuana criteria are strict.

Can't know for sure: After a tonsillectomy it is not good to put any hot smoke, and that would include cigarettes or marijuana.  I have to tell you that when someone has a major piece of surgery, and their concern seems to center on when they can use drug "x" again, i get concerned that there is a drug problem, whether drug x is alcohol, marijuana or heroin. Two weeks would be reasonable, but think about it.

Dont smoke: If consumption or exposure to any drug or medication occurs it is probably best to avoid it.

Tobacco always: If you have open sores in your mouth, then your risks for many things are greater.  It is a habit worth talking with someone about changing.  As for weed and tobacco, all I can say is that tobacco is always a problem to your mouth, sores or not.  You may be able to address both of these issues with your doctor or a behavioral therapist.

Maybe....: One time use of cannabis can clear in a week. Long term use takes a month or more to clear.

: It is not a good idea to smoke cigarettes or marijuana while you are recovering from surgery as this could affect your healing ability. Smoking also adversely affects your health in general but especially puts you at risk for lung side effects like asthma, COPD (emphysema/chronic bronchitis), lung cancer, etc. These diseases can ultimately shorten your life expectancy. A younger person (with a brain, neurotransmitters, and receptors not fully developed), especially with a family history of schizophrenia or psychosis, should know her family history and avoid experimenting with weed or other illegal drugs that may have a similar effect on her brain.
