up to a few weeks..: Depending on the severity of your injury and the level of need to walk/use your leg etc..Crutches are only need for a few days to couple of weeks in most cases. You tend to heal faster when young and in good health and longer and longer with age and concomitant illnesses. Often after a few days, you can hop around w/o cructhes. Consult doc. Good luck.

Hard to say: It is hard to say, simply because the specific nature of the injury is not known.  Some people might think they had sprained their knee and actually had a major ligament injury to the ACL for example, or others might have truly had a mild injury.  As you get more comfortable, it is not unreasonable to progress your weight bearing as tolerated, if any question I would be seen.

Graded 1 through 3..: Sprains & strains are graded based on the number of fibers within the structure that are stretched/ torn. A grade 1 may not cause enough pain/ discomfort for you to think you need a brace/ crutches, but a brace is a good idea. The brace can protect the  joint from further damage until you have regained enough strength to protect yourself in your normal activities.

Injury: While some components of an injury can have less pain, by restricted weight bearing,they may still cause symptoms secondary to swelling, inflammation, and even bleeding.  If it does not improve, consider an MRI for a more specific diagnosis beyond a simple " sprain."

Sprained knee: Well you have diagnosed yourself. Now really you need to give a better history. What exactly did you do to injure the knee?  Can you bear weight?  Now crutches are not the answer. You could try a knee sleeve but again you are assuming the knee is just a sprain. If you do not improve in a few days you better see a doctor

Crutches: Yes. Have your knee checked, you may have a rupture in your bursa or another cause for your knee pain. All the best.
