Probably yes, but...: ...make sure it's prostatitis. Most "prostatitis" in younger men actually is nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), which is an STD -- often caused by chlamydia, plus other sexually transmitted germs. NGU is commonly treated with doxy but prostatitis is not. You and he both need STD testing if not done. If prostatitis is confirmed, however, it's not harmful and not likely to interfere with conception.

When finished : You are only taking one week of Doxycycline so even if you got pregnant the first day of taking it the baby would not be formed beyond a few cells. No need to delay.

Yes it is possible: Antibiotics decrease the absorption of the pill and therefore decrease its effectiveness. You should always use a backup measure or abstain while on an antibiotic if you are on the bcp.

Complete Rx: Complete your Doxycycline Rx and wait for the next normal period before considering conception, just in case you contracted an infection from Africa.(malaria, etc.)

: Quite often acne treatment may take a much longer time to control. Also, it would not be wise to take certain meds such as Tetracycline at about the time that you might conceive  See your dermatologist for perhaps topical treatment and ask your ob-gyn about what is permissible when you are pregnant.

hey is being on doxycycline for 10 days harmful to sperm when trying to conceive with your partner close to ovulation ? if the male only one taking it for a non std problem could i still get my girlfriend pregnant on that 10 mark would be ovulation?

: Probably no harm. Older studies suggest doxycycline might reduce sperm motility and therefore reduce the odds of conception. However, it causes no apparent DNA damage and not known to risk the health of a resulting embryo or fetus.

Unlikely: Unlikely but possible. Do a pregnancy test if the end of the cycle shows no period before you start your next pack of pills.

Not for use in pregn: Pregnant women should not take tetracycline derivatives like Doxycycline during pregnancy unless there are no other antibiotics that can be used to treat the patient.  Tetracyclines affect tooth development causing staining deformities and also retard the development of bone.

Not recommended: Doxycycline is not advisable during pregnancy. There are usually safer alternatives.  There have been evidence of fetal risk when doxycycline is taken during pregnancy.

It can be recommended only in life-threatening situation where the benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the fetus and when there are no better alternative.

Not a good idea: Doxycycline can cause changes in the bone structure of a developing fetus.  Discuss with the doctor who is planning to give this to you if you need to combat an infection - discuss alternatives for treatment.
