The incubation period for Herpes simplex virus infection ranges from 2 days to 2 weeks.

my girlfriend kissed me on the lips, french kiss ,and two weeks later, ulcers appeared on my lips. knowing that we tested for all stds the day before the kiss including rpr and hiv/p24. do i need to take any test? i have had oral herpes since child?

: By far the main cause of mouth or lip ulcers is herpes; this might just be a worse than usual recurrence of your longstanding infection. Two weeks is too long for symptoms of a new HSV infection, and anyway you are immune to a new infection with HSV type 1. To confirm the likely diagnosis,have an HSV PCR test from the ulcers ASAP -- within 2-3 days of onset, if possible. Good luck.

Contact: the virus transfers through skin contact other than kissing ,like hand contacts that was in touch of the lesion while its active,transfers to others healthy hands .

Not from your friend: It's unlikely you caught oral herpes from your friend, assuming no intimate contact like kissing. The first infection with herpes simplex virus (HSV) usually is more severe than a single cold sore. If that's what you have, it's more likely you have had oral HSV all along (usually acquired in childhood) now having a recurrent outbreak. Or maybe not herpes -- see a doctor for accurate diagnosis.

my mil keeps kissing newborn near mouth after ive repeatedly told her not to. cant tell if she has cold sore, maybe an older ones not oozy or active. scared baby will get herpes? should i have him tested?

If she has no : Sores on her lips then there is little chance of transmission .  Have you ever has a cold sore in your mouth anytime in your life? If so then you have it too already . 80% of people carry the herpes simplex I virus that causes cold sores.

Good question: You can still possibly get herpes even though he had no lesions at that time. Get an appt with your family physician for an exam and possibly a medication to help protect you in case he transmitted the infection to you.

Depends: You will  not  contact if that  ' some one ' did not have herpes , infected one  even if did not have sores some times  will shed virus and there is a slight chance of getting infected.  Usually prolonged contacts are needed.
