A bit too early: The exact time for reliable chlamydia testing by NAAT isn't certain, but 3 days probably is a bit early. A negative result would be somewhat reassuring, but probably not conclusive. It would be safer to wait until 5 days or so, unless there is some urgency (e.g. if you have abdominal pain or other symptoms of a complication like PID).

Unlikely but...: You're very unlikely to catch HIV from oral sex, though you can catch other nasty things. If you are horribly worried, you can get a pcr for the HIV viruses. Good luck, and love wisely in the future.

Chlmydia: This is readily treated with antibiotics but if left untreated can cause irreversible damage.

Chlamydia treatment: The tests are very good but not perfect:  some people are infected even with negative tests. All people sexually exposed to a partner with chlamydia should be treated, whether or not her or his own test is positive. Good luck.

More info needed...: The standard chlamydia DNA test (also called NAAT, i.e. nucleic acid amplification test) is highly reliable. The only way to be infected is by sex with another infected person. You might have longstanding infection, missed by your earlier test. You're in the best position to judge whether to believe your partner about sex with others. The important thing now is that you both be treated. Good luck!

Not known: The longest time from std chlamydia exposure until it shows up in a lab test is not known; because everybody is different, everyone contacts a different number of germs, people's memories of events are not that accurate, each test type is different, tests are not 100% accurate, etc... If a person is, for example, negative at 2 weeks and at 2 months, but positive later, it's likely a new infection.

Yes: Patients who have been exposed to an STI and are prescribed treatment with an appropriate antibiotic regimen will benefit from that treatment if they have the infection even if the test isn’t positive.

New exposure: The chlamydia and some other STD's can lay dormant, but the term reflects more a tendency not to produce symptoms that would lead to discovery and treatment. False negatives can occur with testing, depending on the test and collection method. However, if regular surveillance was negative and you turned up positive, it is most likely from a new exposure.

how long should i wait after exposure to chlamydia or gonorrhea for medicine to be effective? i know it takes a few days for it to come up in tests..

Chlamydia treatment: With recommended treatment (azithromycin or doxycycline), chlamydia is non-infectious for partners after 2-3 days, but to be safe it is best to have no sex for at least a week, and only with partners who also were treated or not previously exposed. The standard tests are reliable any time more than 4-5 days after exposure.
