Depends on the cause: Pink eye or conjunctivitis can be cause by either bacteria or virus and spread to another person is usually by direct hand to face contact so may possibly avoided by good handwashing.  Most viral causes are contagious at first sign of a cold and may persist for days to a week or longer.  Bacterial causes are usually related to sinus infection and respond quickly to antibiotcs in 1-2 days.

Up to 2 weeks : You can start to show signs up to 2 weeks after exposure. Signs can be redness, mucus, eyes stuck shut, or itching .

See below: A subconjunctival hemorrhage  occurs when a tiny blood vessel breaks just underneath the clear surface of your eye (conjunctiva). It's usually a harmless condition that disappears within one or two weeks. It often occurs without any obvious harm to your eye, or it may be the result of a strong sneeze or cough that caused a blood vessel to break. You don't need any specific treatment.

Okay to for day 7: Okay to start wearing makeup on the seventh day.  However might be prudent to purchase fresh mascara, eye liner and eye shadow in case your old eye makeup is contaminated with the bacteria that caused your pink eye.

how long do i have to wait after pink eye seems cleared up before i can wear contacts? can i wear them as soon as i don't have any more itchiness from the pink eye, or do i need to wait longer?

Once : Once your symptoms are completely resolved and your therapy to treat the condition is done than you should be ok to go back to wearing contact lenses.

for 3 weeks i've had a pink eye/sore throat virus. pink eye was gone for a while but has come back full force. is that normal? how much longer? :(

Have it checked: I think adenovirus when I hear of pink eye/throat issues. This virus can cause eye redness for up to 14 days in some. The virus basically can strip the thin top lining of the eye off leaving it vulnerable to secondary infection/pain. Antibiotics don't help but may be used to reduce a second infection. I would see an MD this week to see what the cause is. Good luck!

No: Pink eye will get better without treatment.  You can use some over the counter allergy or rewetting drops to soothe your eyes.
