how long after i've taken prednisone (for 2 nights) should i wait before i get food allergy testing? don't want results to be affected. thanks!

Should be Fine: 2 dose of oral prednisone shouldn't affect skin testing results. Prior to your appointment make sure you are not on any antihistamine medications as these can interfere with the histamine response required for skin testing. Get off non-sedating antihistamines for around 3-5 days prior, sedating antihistamines 1-2 days prior.

Get blood drawn: There is no problem with drawing your blood while on meds.

Not in USA: If you feel you need steroids you should see an md any way. Self medicating isn't recommended even for doctors.

Yes: A taper is not usually required after short term steroid use.

Variable: Mestinon (pyridostigmine) for mg provides marked improvement in some patients and little or none in others. The symptom improvement may be mixed, with significant improvement in some symptoms but not others. No one dosing schedule is ideal for all patients. Steroids result in remission in about 30% of patients. Onset of benefit usually occurs within 2-3 weeks, but there may be transient clinical deterioration.

Prednisone effects: Side effects associated with prednisone can be difficult to tolerate in some patients. Some common side effects of this medication include: mood swings, trouble sleeping, irritation of the stomach, weight gain, gastrointestinal intolerance, and increased blood sugars (if diabetic). If you only took one dose symptoms should resolve within a few hours.

PREDNISONE IN HIGH: Enough doses can cause sodium retention with elevated blood pressure and possiblr to have a stroke from that.

Accepted Answer

Ovulation test: Prednisone should not have an effect on the test or on ovulation itself. Prednisone, however, has a Category D rating for pregnancy, so it would be best not being on it if trying to conceive. If you must take it for an illness, you need to discuss the risk with your doctor.
