Not quickly : A herniated disc may shrink with time. But it's the inflammation that it causes which produces the leg pain. Once that inflammation subsides usually the pain does too. However, if their is a lot of pressure you can get leg weakness and numbness. If this is also causing bowel or bladder problems it becomes an emergency to treat. As far as time for a disc to go away, it can take a long time.

Possibly: If the herniation is acute (just happened) a common course is that these issues resolve on their own within 6-8 weeks. Often physical therapy and anti-inflammatories are important in the healing process. See below: Your question is confusing.  Generally it takes a series of epidurals to get maximal relief.  If that fails there may be other possible injections or treatments for your pain.  There is always surgery of injections or physical therapy do NT help.

Yes it does!: Lots of people live not knowing they have 1. Also if some1 has pain and 1 is found, pain attributed to it. Surgery doesn't  always helpi have patients who  got rid of even foot drops with yoga and or rehab.
Pain is just your body telling you you are doing something wrong, and at that point it is often reversible if you listen. 
Yes it cd go away, but what you really need is have it silent.

Anytime, but  : You must be proactive in terms of lifestyle changes including: weight control, regular exercising & not smoking.  Make sure you have adequate sleep and good vitamin d/calcium intake.  Most people remain functional without spine surgery for lower back pain.  You may require additional treatment that may include physical rherapy, medication as well as possible pain management techniques.

Time & exercise: A herniated disc does not necessary require treatment. If there is associated nerve root compression/irritation then treatment may be required. Understand that 90% of pain associated with nerve root irritation will resolve with time. Otc prescription  nsaids, oral steroids, heat/cold and stretching exercises will help resolve the acute pain. If not then epidural steroids may be beneficial.
