The healing time depends on the degree of injury. Most sprains heal in 7-10 days, but severe ones can take longer. Be sure to RICE- rest, compress (ace wrap), ice (frozen peas), and elevate. Avoid running or jumping until symptoms resolve. If you are not better in 2 weeks, visit your doctor, because further testing may be needed. Hope this helps!

RICE: Yes. You should start with rice as a home treatment. After 48-72 hours you may switch to heat (instead of ice). As your pain starts to subside you may add stretching as tolerated, and massage. Once pain is gone, then gently return to activity as your strength and proprioception may need time to recovery after the injury, and you don't want to further injure yourself by going "all out" too fast.

Water cast.: The swelling has not gone down because the ankle is still unstable. The swelling is the body's way of maintaining stability of the ankle. It is essentially a water cast. Two weeks is apparently not enough time to have any appreciable healing. You will need to use some sort of ankle support for a while. The time is based on the extent of the injury.

i have a high ankle sprain and my ankle is not in place it's 4 inches above the socket and my foot is turned to the right and i can't walk on it it been about 4 days now and the swelling is going down but not all the way is this normal ?

See ankle specialist: Make sure no fracture or ligament tear. Will need x-rays and possibly MRI to assess degree of injury. Swelling may last days to months, depending on level of injury. If you can't walk, it sounds severe and needs treatment. Swelling going down is good but needs to be evaluated by specialist.
