Throat damage: Healthy acidic or spicy foods do not damage your throat or usually affect your throat adversely.  Sometimes a person has a sensitivity or allergy to a certaiq food or spice and that can cause a problem in that specific individual.

YES: Capaicin the essential chemical in spices can cause local reaction in almost everyone but some people are more sensitive than others. Milk is a good "neutralizet" to this effect. If , however , the swelling is severe or remains for more than several minutes you may have an allergy which requires attention!

Burning throat: Greetings. The burning may be due to reflux. If you suffer from heartburn or GERD, then tums or a medication like Zantac (ranitidine) may be of help. Pharyngitis coming from a virus could be the cause and Tylenol/Motrin could help. See your doctor for confirmation. Good Luck.

Probably not: Based on what was stated, and you are not a smoker with any other medical history, the most probable cause is GERD (see below). Would recommend cutting back on or eliminating tomatoes, onions, caffeine, alcohol, mint, chocolate, and citrus fruits. Also no food for 1 hour before bedtime and no tight clothing at the waist. Over the counter antacids as needed. If no improvement within a week see MD

Sore throat: Spicy foods can worsen a sore throat.  Try chicken soup, ibuprofen, or a humidifier.  It sounds viral, but i wouldn't tell you to eat spicy foods to make it better.

Get seen: The most common cause for new sore throat is a viral infection, but worsening after a week may be concerning.  You should have the throat examined as you may need an appropriate medication.  Casein in food will exacerbate pain from inflammation from any cause and fits with your overall story.
