i have a lump on my face that looks like a mosquito bite, but it doesn't itch, it just stings slightly and is red but not swollen. i tryed popping it ?

Spider bite?: It may be from a spider bite.  If it gets worse , be sure to consult your doctor.  Spider bite often gets infection and rapid spread so don't delay in getting it checked out.  (since there are other potential causes as well)

Requires exam: if this a hardened mass you must be examined; however possibly a superficial skin abscess or inflammation must be ruled out.

Urticaria: Hives(urticaria) can look and feel like mosquito bites.Multiple causes including-drug allergy, topical contact allergy(bath/laundry products) and reactions to strep and viral infections.

Large local reaction: Some kids seem to go through a phase where mosquito bites get bigger and bigger - large red, hard, itchy knots that last for days. With time they grow out of them. This is not anaphylaxis or worrisome.  There are reports in the literature of military recruits in basic training getting sick from literally hundreds of mosquito bites, but that's the exception that proves the rule! Use steroid cream.

: Few bug bites are have features that allow identification of the bug. The description is not specific to any one in particular. If caught in the act you know.  If the area is red with increasing size/drainage/has a dark cavity/it may be infected. If not, it should fade.

Insect bite: No mosquitoes in NY? Nonsense! They're everywhere -- every state, every town, every neighborhood. Or perhaps you're being bitten by something else. In any case, try an insect repellent and see if it prevents the problem.

Mosquito Bites: Avoid scratching. Although a mosquito bite should itch for only a few days, continual scratching will increase your discomfort and may prolong the itching and cause an infection. Try otc hydrocortisone. You should not "pop" the bite as it may already be infected.
