No: First, it's extremely unlikely that a tooth abscess can cause pain in an armpit. As a matter of fact I have never heard or seen that in over 40 years of dental practice. Secondly, pain does not refer from one side to the other. Having said that, any infection can spread to other parts of the body. See dentist for infected tooth and see physician for proper diagnosis of armpit pain.

Sounds like abscess: It sounds like an early dental abscess.  As the abscess gets larger it will hurt even when you don't press on the tooth.  See your dentist.  You may need a root canal or extraction.

If : If your infection has been treated and then the abcess has returned, you need to go back to the dentist who is treating you so that he/she can evaluate your condition.

It is possible that you need additional antibiotics to clear up your infection and allow your dentist to treat your problematic tooth.

Dr : Dr zweig gave you some good advice. Was the root canal started? You did not clarify in your post. The dead nerve tissue needs to be removed to help the antibiotics work.

It may be necessary to use a different antibiotic if you are not getting better. Call your dentist for an evaluation.

Can't generalize: While antibiotic courses are often longer when used solely to treat infections, in this case a big part of treating your infection was the removal of the offending tooth. Sometimes shorter courses of meds are used to help get the healing started then we rely on your immune system and the healing process. Ask your doctor this question to understand why a short course was prescribed.

Yes, see a dentist!: Yes the nerves in our face and neck are all connected so one tooth can cause all the teeth and tissue on that side to hurt.  The white pimple is the infection trying to drain out.  You should see a dentist immediately to determine if the tooth can be saved with a root canal or if it will need to be extracted the sooner you see a dentist the better.

: Dental xrays should show an abscess but I've seen a few patients who had recent dental xrays &amp; had a periapical abscess very  shortly thereafter. It's hard to know whether the abscess/inflammation was brewing at the time of the dental xrays a few days earlier.
