Several ways: Tonsillitis is inflammation (redness, swelling, pain) and/or infection of the tonsils, which can be due to viruses, bacteria, or other germs. Antibiotics to treat tonsil infections sometimes cause rashes. Viruses can cause rashes by themselves or in combination with antibiotic usage. Strep throat causes strep scarlet fever, a well-known rash that feels rough and looks like many tiny reddish dots.

How long the rash?: I am not sure how do you confirmly associate the rash and tonsillitis. Streptococcal infection of the tonsils can cause a rash. But I would suggest you take ur daughter to her pediatrician as there are other causes of rash like medication induced, viral infections etc.

It could...: Any of several common infections in childhood could cause both skin rash and sore throat (with or without obvious tonsillitis). Most are not serious, but one bad one is scarlet fever, a combination of rash with strep throat. Get your child to his doctor ASAP.

: No. There has to be another reason. Medicine taken for iot may cause it or some other allergy. It will go away when you stop meds. if not see your MD.

Possibly: Most people with this history will not react when exposed 20 years later. But some of them will get a rash again.

Amoxicillin: Amoxicillin not uncommonly causes a skin rash . You should stop it and ask your doctor to find out if she still needs it or needs to get an alternate antibiotic.
Try Benadryl (diphenhydramine) if itching is an issue.

Viral rash: This could be a simple viral rash or it could be a reaction to the antibiotics. If it is accompanied by fever, vomiting, neck stiffness it can be worrying as it is difficult to rule out meningitis. In short it needs an examination by a doctor to comment on the cause of the rash.

Might be or not: A fraction of Strep A germs have the ability to produce a red rash,like a sandpaper textured sunburn.It has little importance in the antibiotic era since the germ is killed easily. Prior to antibiotics SF was a bad disease, today not so much. This med should kill the germ easily. If the fever persists in spite of rx it is either the wrong dose or not strep A. A re-check by his doc would be prudent

Rash and tonsillitis: Tonsillitis is a very common illness in kids.  The majority of tonsil infections are viral and some are bacterial like the well known strep throat.  Many viral illness are associated with a rash called a viral exanthum.  Many patients with strep throat will also have rash called scarlatina.  Rashes can be caused by a number of other etiologies and should have a provider eval if they persist.
