Indefinitely: Thee is no defined limit.  How you treat your body, secondary illnesses and genetics all play a role in life expectancy and how long are body parts will work.  Take care of it and it will take care of you.

2 ct scans of lungs for my pe and 1 of my abdom now they want another of my bladder without contrast to check for kidney stones. that makes 4 in 2 months im gonna decline. question: isn't that too many ct to close together. i think i should wait.

Risk vs. benefit: There is a small risk from radiation exposure of a CT scan, however, the benefit usually far exceeds the risk You may ask to have an ultrasound examination and discuss it that may obviate the need for a CT.

hubby has swelling all over body arms/legs/ankles. went to er. heart/kidneys/lungs all fine. no answer. gave anti inflammatory and sent home. benadryl helps but he can't stop it. must take every 6 hr. primary had no answer. out of town 4 work. help. ?

Go to ER: This calls for a second opinion if nothing else. If there is any problem with his breathing, go back to the ER NOW. If just a little uncomfortable, call the doctor who is on call for your vacationing primary. Best wishes

i have a sharp pain in the left side of by chest under my breast which doesn't subside with normal painkillers.  went to the dr last week for s3 painkillers which don't work.  scan for kidney and gallstones came out clear. ?

Rib Pain: Without an exam, what you are describing sounds like chostochondritis.  This is an inflammation of the "joint" where the cartilidge portion of of your rib cage joins the bone portion.  Unfortunatlely this can be quite painful and take some time to resolve (if this is indeed the case).  Heating pads and Ibuprofen work best for that.

my d dimer is elevated (500) 34 yo no history besides kidney stones and old ulcer, have chest pain and sob, & doe, ct clean for pe, ultrasound clean for clots, not pregnant, no infection. other lab work (cbc, bmp, lfp, coag)normal. would could it be?

: Your symptoms may indicate a PE, and another imaging screening may be considered, and EKG 12 lead may be associated with abnormalities. Consider cardiac conditions and a Cardiology appointment. There are other causes of an elevated D Dimer test and PE should be ruled out.

See below: I am not sure about the details regarding your question, but there is a disease called goodpasteurs syndrome/disease which is a condition in which the patient has hemoptysis, coughing of blood and hematuria, blood in urine, due to some antibodies [proteins] which are in the blood and react with lungs and kidneys.

Alcohol kidney lung: Massive amount can overwhelm kidney and liver capacity to eliminate alcohol and toxic levels can kill. Kidneys otherwise filter much faster (to be simple) but main organs that suffer are brain liver heart and vascular system. Cirrhosis can occur 15-20y later, hypertension can be consequence of alcoholism, heart muscle can loose power to contract properly and enlarge then fail, arrythmia then occur.

Not too much effect: Alcohol rarely affects the kidneys. Lungs are not directly influenced although folks can get drunk and choke on their food or vomitus which can lead to serious lung injury
