Slipped meniscus?: Hard to be certain but we call this internal derangement of the knee. In this case you may have cartilage that slips about. You will need an evaluation  and imaging to clarify this.

Cast or boot: Depending on the type of injury, you may be offered a cast or more likely a boot. For the first few weeks, you will be non weightbearing until the healing starts. After a while, when a callus is formed, gradual return to weight bearing will be done. This will depend on the type of fracture and your progress in healing.
