How can you treat a broken ankle?

Cast or boot: Depending on the type of injury, you may be offered a cast or more likely a boot. For the first few weeks, you will be non weightbearing until the healing starts. After a while, when a callus is formed, gradual return to weight bearing will be done. This will depend on the type of fracture and your progress in healing.

Depends on type: Some ankle fractures require surgery and some can be treated by immobilization. Factors that guide the treatment opinion of your doctor include: location, type of fracture (some are more stable and others very unstable), injury force, whether the fracture is open or closed, personal medical history and health, and many more. Talk to your doctor to understand the plan.

Broken Ankle: Depending on the nature of the injury and if your ankle is unstable, it can be treated either with a cast or walking boot or with surgery.
