Reduce volume: Babies tend to drink larger volumes faster when drinking from a bottle than from a breast. It may be that your infant needs help slowing down. Feed him 1-2 oz at a time while holding him upright, and give him a break by taking time to burp him, then another 1-2 oz 5-7 minutes later until the bottle is done. Keep him upright after feeding (don't lay him down) and make sure he is well burped.

Lactose : Lactose intolerance is the lack of an intestinal enzyme called lactase and is the inability to digest lactose - the sugar found in milk and other dairy products.  Babies are born with the lactase enzyme and most lactose intolerance does not occur until age 3 or older if at all.  Symptoms can be bloating, cramps, diarrhea, nausea and poor growth in children.  Some races such as asians and african americans are more susceptable to lactose intolerance than caucasians.

2%-3% of infants have milk allergy and the good news is that many of them outgrow in by 3-5 years of age.  Milk allergy is actually the body's immune system recognizing cow milk protein in the intestines as a foreign substance and causing symptoms like loose, sometimes bloody stool, irritability, vomiting and food refusal.  This usually occurs in the first few months of life.  The incidence of milk allergy is lower in breast fed babies than formula fed babies, but some babies react to the cow's milk protein transferred through the mother's milk from the dairy in the mother's diet.  Breast feeding is best and you can continue if you restrict or eliminate milk and dairy products from your diet.  Just make sure you are getting enough calcium from non-dairy sources!

No: Suggest that u go on a diary free diet. Formula should be lactose free and hydrolysated.  May need to add lactase enzyme drops  .

Confusing question: If baby is truly lactose intolerant, s/he will not be able to tolerate your milk.All human milk contains lactose. If you are not lactose intolerant, you can consume it and it will not effect the "lactose" content of babies milk. Some babies are partially intolerant to lactose after diarrheal illness, but recover.

my 19 month baby is lactose intolerant so sh3 is on lactaid ordered by her doctor, now she pushes & nag when she has bowel movements, how can i help her?

Increase fiber: You need to increase her fiber intake so that her stools are softer and easier to pass. This has nothing to do with her being on lactose free milk, except she now doesn't get diarrhea from the lacotse, so stools are more formed. Also ensure plenty of just plain water every day. If despite these things she is still straining, talk to doctor about MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) to help soften stools.

All mammal milk (including human milk) contains lactose, and the chances of a newborn being lactose intolerance are a million-to-one. Avoid it: If you cramp or have loose stools only after consuming lactose containing material (bovine milk, ice cream, etc.)you may have lactose intolerance. If so, you avoid it or ingest the lactase enzyme (lactaid pills) prior to consuming it. There are other reasons people cramp or pass loose stools, so you may want to check with your doc.

my baby has severe trapped wind what can i do to help her? i'm lactose intolerant could she be?

Yes: She could be lactose intolerant or milk protein intolerant. Homeopathic cocyntal may help her pass the wind.. Pumping her ;legs in a bicycle fashion may help too. Gently rubbing her tummy in a clockwise direction may also help. Hope one of these  ideas helps.
