Edema: Without knowing your medical history and things such s your weight it is hard to give you any advice.  My guess would be that you have some problems with the veins in your legs that causes the swelling in your legs.  I would suggest that you see your physician and get evaluated for this problem.

Salt a bigger issue: If you have normal kidney function, your kidneys can discard excessive fluids you might drink.  The bigger issue for water retention is salt intake which makes you retain additional water through hormonal actions and lead to retention.

im having alot of lower leg swelling and retaining water. my socks leave deep crease in my legs. my husband's are the same only his legs are red and has water blisters and leaks clear. is it heart failure?what do i do?

Edema CHF?: The reason you are both having edema is in part related to eating more sodium(Na) than your kidneys can get rid of. There are many causes and you need to find out as treatment will differ widely.  I recommend USING the app Cronometer to track Na intake to see where the Na is coming from. Your daily goal should be &lt;1,500 mg Na.  Discuss results with your team.  Keep them and us posted.

when i take my socks off i notice an indentation as well as in my wrists.  like i am retaining water.  do i need to worry?  how can i change it?

Edema: Edema can be due to many causes.  It would be most common in the ankles at the end of the day due to venous insufficiency, which is not heart related.
 Edema in the upper extremities such as the wrist would be unusual and would recommend further medical evaluation.
Other reasons for edema are many, and include heart failure, kidney problems, liver problems, adrenal problems, or medications.

good morning.  i have been using amaloretic for over 4 years due to water retention.  i am retaining water with the medication.what should i do?

It is important to: recognize that the fluid balance in your body is an equilibrium. If there is excess fluid in your body you are either taking in too much or excreting too little. The medicine will help with excretion but intake remains an issue. In addition if you have excessive sodium ingestion this will also cause you to retain. Reduce your fluid intake and sodium intake and retention should resolve.

Water Retention: Retaining water is often really retaining sodium. Classic sign is edema or lower extremity swelling and or weight gain.

Two different things: If you do daily weights you can tell. Fluid retention can result in rapid weight gain over days, and you may have swelling in your lower extremities. If it persists, or you have other symptoms like shortness of breath, cough, chest pain, see your doc or go to the er. Some scales can help measure fat content in your body. Women gain fat around their thighs, men more truncal in their bellys.
