Unlikely: It would be rare at that age. Diagnosis requires an expert such as ENT or oral surgeon and often needs biopsy as appearnces can mislead . Tumors grow or ulcerate and do not go away over time . Have it checked as even  non cancerous lesions may be a sign of other medical conditions.

Yes: Orally cancer  has been primarily a disease of  older men who smoke and drink alcohol , however this has changed in the last few years.  Now oral cancers are seen in young er people.  This is because of the increase in 
hpv.   Some strains are known  to cause cancers.  Your doctor can test for hpv., especially in women.

Yes: There is no 'safe' length of time to smoke before the risk of cancer kicks in. Also, cancers often have many contributing causes--so smoking can be just part of the picture.  Your best bet is to quit today.  if you have mouth symptoms and you're worried it could be cancer, then see your doctor and discuss this.  Your doc might recommend further evaluation, treatment, or other expert opinion.

Rare: Smoking of any kind and use of alcohol will increase your risk over time. Get six month soft tissue examination at your regular dental check ups. No need to worry at your current age.

Still at risk: The chances of getting mouth cancer is still significant even though use tobacco occasionally.  You are still getting more than enough exposure to cancer causing substances.  At those infrequent times why do it at all, and take whatever chance it may be..

Tobacco associated: You need to be tobacco free to be low risk. Chewing tobacco, pipes (Freud died from it), cigars are all risks. AND assuming tobacco free. Low risk. BUT scar tissue is a risk for the development of scar cancers and 2 of the small number of patients I've had die from cancers were with cancers in scar (lung, skin). 
BUT without any characteristics of cancer.....

Yes: Yes, smoking 1 cigar a day for 6 years ( 6x365= 2190 cigars) could give you risk to have oral cancer.
If you smoke cigars and also drink alcohol- the risk will be significantly higher. 
Please consider to quit smoking cigar and cigarette.

Not Likely: While possible, oral cancer require many years of misuse to develop. Also, we are not certain of the effect of e-cigs but know there is a 100% correlation between use of SNUS with oral cancer developing in the location where the SNUS is placed in the mouth.  Most likely you have candidiasis or thrush but in any event, you need to see your dentist to have it evaluated &amp; treated.

i have been married for 30 years. while in university, i had lots of sexual partners. for the past 10 years, i have stopped having oral sex fearing that i might get mouth cancer. i have wart virus. what should i do?

Common concern: Multiple sex partners does increase the risk for contracting hpv and hpv is associated with cancer (genital and oral/throat). However, within 3 years of getting hpv over 90% have cleared it from their body. If you and/or your partner have had hpv it is quite likely gone and the risk for transmission is negligible.
