Monitor / film: Although some kids with tic disorders (under stress) can supress them to some degree, they often rebound with greater tic activity when no one is watching. One cool observation shows that kids under 8 or so are not aware of peripheral vision. If you monitor their tic behavior when they don't think you are looking it should stop in the fake. A videocam surveylance  would give similar data.

Tourette's by: Definition has to include a vocal and not just a motor tic. The vocal tic can be as minor as clearing your throat repetitively. So, if you have a vocal and a motor tic, you have may have tourette's (diagnosis ultimately must be confirmed by a qualified professional who witnesses it). If you do not have a vocal tic, then you do not have tourette's.

Doubtful: I would not think that aloe vera gel would be helpful in any way for a tic disorder.  There are some supplements that might legitimately help: GABA supplementation (which would have a calming effect(.  Also l-theanine.    Use of high dose, high potency fish oil, for nerve cell membrane stabilization and decrease in irritability, might also be helpful.   Good luck!

Some basics: There are real tics &amp; true tics occur with or without an audience. The person may be able to suppress them for a while and many try to incorporate them with a more acceptable action like a cough.  They do effect the emotional state of the kid &amp; those around them. How much is real or fake can sometimes be verified during a videotaped observation when the kid is alone.

The best diagnosis: Comes from meeting with a physician.  A physician needs to both take a thorough history from you and examine you to get the right diagnosis. Also your doctor will discuss with you if any labwork or other tests will need to be done.
