Fluid exchange: Herpes is most commonly transmitted via fluid exchange through kissing, oral-genital sex, sexual intercourse. Usually, upon exposure, there is a latency period after which blisters appear that are painful. They are often noted as cold sores when they appear around the lips. If you had herpes before, you may not see the classic signs of pain/skin blisters/vesicles etc.

i was just diagnosed with herpes type 1 last week. i'm currently with someone who knows the situation but i'd like to know if he could go down on me?

More info needed: Presumably you have been diagnosed with genital herpes due to HSV type 1, right? HSV1 mostly causes oral herpes but can cause genital. Most genital HSV1 causes few recurrent outbreaks and is not easily transmitted by sex. If you're talking about oral herpes, or just a positive blood test, then oral contact with your vaginal area ("going down") is little or no risk. See an expert. Good luck!

: You exposed your partner and may have infected them. It is less likely to pass if you are clear of an outbreak, but may pass anytime. People can take antiviral meds and suppress outbreaks. Condoms do not always prevent transmission. Your question is rather vague. What is done is done.

i have herpes 1 (oral) and my girlfriend doesn't have it. i want to kiss her but i'm scared i will give it to her. she knows i have it. does anti viral medication help so she can't get it from? and how much does it help?

HSV is contagious: Even between episodes of visible cold sores (HSV) on lips, people can be asymptomatic shedders of the virus from saliva, and mucosal lesions. Valtrex (valacyclovir) and other oral antiviral agents can minimize viral shedding, but will not reduce risk to zero. You will be less likely to spread the virus if using the pill as chronic, suppressive medicine.

i have genital herpes and have a spot on the outside of my bottom lip,  i was going to have sex tonight, he knows that i have g. h.  should i not?

Touchy situation: A lesion on your lip means you are actively shedding virus and are contagious, so oral sex is out.
Genital herpes present with no outbreak there does not mean that your are not contagious, because you still could be shedding virus.
This whole gh thing is a big bummer. Even using condoms won't protect him from a lesion on your thigh.
One idea would be for you both to be on suppressive oral therapy.

i don't think anybody on here understands..in don't known an herpe antibody test is worth it. i don't rem breakouts and if pos i would be upset 4 ever?

No test needed: If you have no problem, don't bother with a test.  If you have been exposed to a sexual partner with genital herpes, an antibody test may be helpful in finding out whether you have become a carrier.  In general, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Rash/scrapings/blood: You have clinical presentation on genitalia in case of genital herpes and rash in and around mouth like cold sores
doctor can take scrapings from the sores or blisters and/or do blood test to make the diagnosis.

Physical exam: Hi. Herpetic whitlow is usually diagnosed by history and physical exam (painful characteristic lesions on finger). Scrapings of the lesions can be stained and looked at in microscope for characteristic multinucleate giant cells, but that probably won&#x27;t be necessary. Good luck!
