Avoid kids w/ colds: The best way to avoid RSV infection is to avoid exposing your premie to children with colds. In older children, the RSV infection may just present itself as a mild cold. However, in a premature infant it can cause wheezing. Rsv season usually starts in the fall and runs into the early spring. Minimizing daycare or church/gym nursery while your infant is very young also helps to reduce the risk.

The incubation period is about 5 days from exposure.
