how can i make sure my baby is warm enough at night without using blankets?

Dress appropriately: In general when dressing your baby you can dress them as you would dress yourself plus one thin layer. In wintertime, depending on your home temperature, it is usually best to dress him with a short sleeve snap top, followed with a warm footed one piece. If this is not enough, add another layer and see if your baby is sweating. In the warmer months remove layers accordingly. No blankets needed.

Tke baby to doctor: What is age of baby? If baby less 12 monhts any not feeding well and change of temprerature is concern. baby shoud be seen in hospital and rule out serious infection. make sure baby keep hydrated - best breatfeeding. Do not wait go to doctor as soon as posible .

Proper dress: An infant needs only a diaper, shirt & a onezie for sleep plus a cap.Proper selection of these garments provide as much warmth as they need. Babies suffocate every year tangled in blankets, pillows or pressed  against bumpers. All are considered hazards for infants.

Fever: It sounds like you might have a fever. If you have a thermometer available check your temperature. It might be flu or any other infection. You might want to take something like paracetamol to treat the temperature. Depending on what transpires you might want to see your local doctor.

Need access to baby: While we do need to keep these babies warm and keep their fluids in, also need access to them, so something like a space blanket can limit access and also visualization of the baby to see how they are doing. We actually in pinch will use Saran wrap to keep in heat and fluid without losing the ability to see the baby. In developing countries things like space blankets are used for growing preemies.

You may feel more: Comfortable but it doesn't mean it will pass more quickly. Tips: sore throat – gargle with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 8 oz of water). Get strep test/culture if very sore. Congestion – saline nose drops or netti pot. For anti-inflammatory effect & mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.  Hydrate- lots of water/clear broth/ add honey & a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea..

should i keep my daughter warm in blankets to break a fever? or cold compress?

Accepted Answer

No need for cold: compresses or a cold or alcohol bath.The fever is there as a sign that her body is fighting an infection. If your daughter is not uncomfortable, you do not need to dress her any special way or cover her any special way. If she's resting in bed, a light blanket is fine. If she feels cold, you can add another layer. You can also give her acetaminophen or ibuprofen for the fever.

WARM FLUIDS: Try and drink warm fluids and re-check temp within one hour. If persists consult a doctor. Could be just temporary.
