how can i help a stiff neck caused by poor posture?

Many ways: The first thing to do is to understand what good posture looks like. There are a number of resources for this but probably the best way to learn to take control of this yourself is to have a few sessions with a physical therapist who can teach you. Postural exercises looking in a mirror can help. One of my favorites is yoga which spends a great deal of time working on alignment.

i have headache everyday on right side of head with right side body pain ie arm, thigh, back, neck and hand. i have flat flat feet and poor posture. stiff neck and shoulders.  could this all be related? what could it be? thank

Many possibilities: Among many possibilities the pain may originate in your cervical spine (neck) and radiate to your head. Given overall symptoms and the possibility of coexisting conditions would suggest a visit with your doc for an exam and further tests as needed.

i googled 'stiff neck' and pulled up lots on meningitis. i doubt i have that, just bad posture. how can i tell for sure?

Symptoms: Meningitis usually comes on pretty quick.  Symptoms may include: fever and chills, mental status changes, nausea and vomiting, sensitivity to light, severe headache, and stiff neck.

hello! i have stiff neck and shoulders due to a mix of really bad posture and bad anxiety. i've have been to an orthopedic and that was his diagnoses. today i started exercising and i wanted to know if i should lift weights.

Exercise!: Exercise, especially cardio, will help reduce pain and can also relieve some anxiety.  You may lift weights, but do so carefully and safely.  Having a friend or instructor guide you is a good idea, as is starting small.  Congratulations on getting started with exercise.

Physical therapy: If you cannot improve your symptoms by correcting your posture and working on neck strengthening exercises at the gym, i would typically prescribe physical therapy for my patients with this complaint.

Easy things first: Try over the counter anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen, heat pack, icy-hot or ben gay. If that doesnt work, try a massage. Finally if none of those work, you might want to see your primary md. A short course of muscle relaxant can help. Make sure you take steps to prevent a poor sleeping position in the future otherwise the symptoms will persist.

Heat & exercises : Without more information,  it is not possible to  try to determine the cause of your pain. Would recommend trying an otc  NSAID along  with stretching exercises. If the pain persists then you need to see your pcp.

Mostly just time: For most muscular symptom presentations in the neck, it takes a little time to  clear.  Sometimes, this may be an initial symptom of another problem like a disc herniation but those usually resolve with time.  If you smoke, stop.  Local heat application may help as can simple stretching of the neck while showering and avoiding prolonged positioning.  Otc medication may help if no contraindications.

These are worrisome: symtoms and may represent an inflammation of the meninges. You should be evaluated by a health care provider as soon as possible to exclude meningitis. Go soon and don't delay.
