Exercise!: Exercise, especially cardio, will help reduce pain and can also relieve some anxiety. You may lift weights, but do so carefully and safely. Having a friend or instructor guide you is a good idea, as is starting small. Congratulations on getting started with exercise.

Anxiety: I understand your discomfort of stiff neck and shoulders. I commend you for starting exercising. Due to stiff neck, wait for lifting weights. Feel good about all exercise you are doing. Have good posture while sitting, standing and walking. Do breathing and Music Relaxation, Meditation, Yoga and Visual Imagery for Relaxation. See Psychiatrist for Therapy and Medication for Anxiety if needed.

Muscular pain: Dealing with myofacsial pain seems like, start with stretching exercise and slowly advance to strengthening exercises not particularly with weight lifting, if possible do it slow and steady.

Yes but go slow: Too much exertion can aggravate your neck problem. So start with gentle stretching exercises and then use the weights as your neck muscles are more relaxed after a couple of weeks of gently exercises. Walking is a good way to start, gradually pick up pace every day and build the distance of more than one mile over 4 weeks and then increase,as tolerated.
