Not much: While you are in the cast, your ankle will get stiff due to the lack of movement. The best way to prevent the stiffness from continuing after the cast is removed is to get physical therapy treatment or use dynamic splinting to increase the range of motion and flexibility.

Cast: Those symptoms don't sound worrisome, but pain,numbness,discoloration,coldness and swelling would warrant a call and visit to your orthopedic specialist.

Post cast atrophy: Since you have been in a cast for several weeks, you rmuscles have undergone atrophy and therefore are weak.  Your joints which were immobilized by the cast have not moved therefor the surrounding soft tissues have become inflexable. You just need to do stretching and strengthening exercises to regain your function.

Manipulation: Long term immobilization always leads to joint stiffness, which, as you are experiencing, can be extremely difficult to overcome.  First, you need to make sure your underlying pathology (presumably a fracture) has healed.  If so, then aggressive pt is in order, and unfortunately, there is no way to avoid the associated pain.  Surgical manipulation of the knee would be an option as well.

can a boot/cast help fix anterior ankle impingement? i cheer so avoiding activity is not an option. i feel like it would help my situation

See below: A boot cast will immobilize your foot and ankle taking pressure off of the area but it will make it difficult to continue strenuous activity.  The key is reduced activity and find the cause for the impingement.

Immobilization: A fiberglass cast is used for immobilization after and injury, such as a fracture.
Fiberglass replaces plaster.

Normal swelling: Stiffness and swelling are  2 of the more common complains after ankle fusion. If the swelling is in the calf all the way to the foot, make sure you notify your surgeon. Make sure you are moving the toes and gently stretching your toes as well as icing and elevating the foot.

ive been having a lot of stiffness lately in my body which im used to, but my ankles have tightened up badly and to move or flex them shoots pain up through my legs. the pain is very focused towards the top and front of my ankles. any advice?
