Many products: have Supplemental Calcium (and Vitamin D) EG ORANGE JUICE!
There is also LACTAID milk!!!!!!

Yes: Calcium is not tied to lactose.  Calcium is a mineral.  Lactose is a sugar.  People with lactose intolerance don't have enough working lactase, the enzyme to break down lactose into its component sugars glucose and galactose.  Lactose is undigestable but the component sugars are.

Yes: Lactose intolerant is not related to calcium. People with lactose intolerance do not digest well the sugar in milk called lactose, as they are deficient in or have no lactase, which is the enzyme responsibility to commence the digestion of lactose.

Calcium : there are many foods besides milk which contain substantial levels of calcium. Yogurt, collard greens, black-eyed peas, cheese food, trail mix, canned salmon, baked beans, tofu, and cottage cheese all contain more than 100 mg of calcium per serving. In addition, you could try skim milk or almond milk. Finally, calcium supplements such as Tums (calcium carbonate) are available.  Good luck.

Various: Tums are safe and are a good source of calcium.  I wouldn't personally recommend anything made from sea sources such as oyster shells.   Best wishes!

Calcium supplement: As long as you do not have any peptic disease such as reflux or gastritis it is ok to drink fortified OJ. keep in mind the amount of calcium in such beverages may not be adequate specially if you are trying to prevent osteoporosis and you may need to take additional calcium tablets daily . Lastly make sure your Vitamin D level is in the normal range as well   ( blood test for 25-OH Vitamin D )

Vit D,A,K,magensium: Milk is overrated as a calcium source-green vegies are the best source (what do the cows eat?).More important than calcium is vit d- everyone needs 5-8000 iu/day in fall & winter, year round if you use sunscreen or don't get mid-day sun.Vit k & vit a work with d. : Calcium is available as a pill supplement. Common antacid tablets include calcium as a main ingredient. A few skin bacteria are often found in random urine analysis and considered insignificant.

why does a person with lactose intolerance have flatulence with the ingestion of dairy products?

Accepted Answer

Bacteria make gas: A normal person eating a healthy diet can get flatulent. One reason is excess fiber. Since humans don't digest the fiber, intestinal bacteria will feed on it and make gas as a byproduct. Another reason is lactose intolerance, in which one can't digest the lactose (milk sugar) he eats. Again, bacteria will feed on it. A third reason is sugar alcohols, like maltitol, that can cause gas & diarrhea.

Possibly: My understanding is these pills contain lactase a brush border enzyme which  breaks down the sugar in the milk to simpler sugars which aids in the absorption of these sugars .This enzyme is missing in most patients with lactose intolerance and  if it supplemented in the form of a pill ,it may work!
