please tell me what an adrenal nodule is?

Adrenal nodule: is a small mass in the adrenal gland.  The vast majority of adrenal nodules incidentally detected on imaging studies are benign adenomas.  These require no treatment, and generally have characteristic appearances on CT and MRI that enable a confident diagnosis without biopsy.  If they don&#x27;t have these characteristics, they may need follow up or biopsy because neoplasm/cancer is a possibility.

how is a 7 x 8 x 9 mm in size adrenal nodule treated?

It is too small!: Small nodules in the Adrenal gland do not require any immediate treatment if they are asymptomatic and found incidentally(Incidentaloma ). If the nodule increases to a size of &gt;10 mm (1CM), then it will require periodic monitoring, perhaps once yearly to verify if it is growing in size or producing any hormones which can then produce symptoms. You may visit and consult an Endocrinologist if needed

is a small adeoma adrenal nodule the same as a pheochromocytoma?

Not the same.: A pheochromocytoma is a benign tumor in the adrenal gland that produces hormones that affect your blood pressure. Most adrenal adenomas do not produce hormones. Unless you're having blood pressure issues, this is not your problem.

i was dxed  with  a adrenal adenoma years ago. i just had a c-scan done and it showed a small nodule  on the adrenal, not neeting the criteria fora adenoma? i am confused.

Diagnostic Criteria: change over time, as does CT technology. What was called an adenoma 20 years ago might qualify as a nodule by today's criteria. Also, there is a phenomenon called "interobserver variability," meaning that measurements and appearance of lesions on radiographs are judgement calls, and what one radiologist calls a nodule, another may call an adenoma. post partial rt adrenalectomy for subclinical cushings. f/up labs still high- 1mg 11p dst, testosterone, 11p saliva cortisol, metanephrine fract plasma, aldosterone/renin. lt adrenal - 7mm nodule w/hyperplasia. is it most likely functioning as well?

Ask your doctor: Disposition depends on clinical symptoms and results of tests. Mibg scan shows functioning tumors such as pheochromocytoma .Symptoms of pheo include headache, sweating, palpitations, elevated blood pressure, anxiety.Nodule usually needs characterization by mri. Adrenocortical carcinoma can produce hormones with virilization and feminization.Some asymptomatic nodules followed such as benign adenoma.

A small: right adrenal gland mass measuring less than 1cm.  Statistically, the vast majority of these incidentally discovered lesions represent benign adrenal adenomas.

Incidentaloma: This was undoubtedly found on a ct or MRI that was done for some other reason.  These incidentally discovered "incidentalomas" are usually benign lumps and of no significance. There are 2 questions your doctor will want to ask: 1. Is the nodule secreting any hormones, like adrenaline, cortisol, etc;  and 2. Is the nodule growing, which would raise a suspicion for cancer.

what is meant by nodular thickening of the left adrenal gland related to hyperplasia without well defined nodule?

Accepted Answer

Size and location: The adrenal glands can increase in size due to hyperplasia (usually bilateral) or a tumor (adenoma or carcinoma). However, hyperplasia may give rise to a thickening of the gland by imaging. There is also nodular hyperplasia, which is often related to specific hormone production (cortisol, aldosterone, etc). Not sure if you are symptomatic.

i have a 2 cm adrenal nodule awaiting investigation. i am about to have my second laser tatto removal treatment will this treatment effect my adrenal ?

Should not: Assuming the tattoo removal is via standard laser treatment it should not affect the evaluation of the adrenal nodule.
