Hypercalcemia: Has a number of causes the most common of which is over-active parathyroid gland(s).  Kidney compromise and diet(milk alkali syndrome-rare) are other causes.  Your level should be repeated along with a test for pth, phosphorus and renal functions.  The most serious complication of elevated calcium (usually near or above 13) is cardiac arrythmia.  Talk to your doctor.

Increase.: Parathyroid hormone helps maintain a normal level of calcium in the blood.  If there is too little the calcium falls.  If there is too much produced by a tumor the calcium is high.

If you are: Referring to ca++ intake in the diet in the face of high blood levels the answer is one would stop any ca++ supplements, but major dietary changes are not needed as gut absorption plays a minor role in the blood level.

2nd, 3rd trimesters.: Total serum calcium levels decrease during pregnancy corresponding to plasma volume increase and Albumin concentration decline, however the active or ionized calcium levels remain completely stable throughout pregnancy. The maternal plasma volume expansion starts in the first trimester but is more pronounced in the second and third.

Not usually: Unless there is something else going on, most people with hypothyroidism will have normal calcium levels.  Hypoparathyroidism (low function of the parathyroid glands) will cause low calcium levels in the blood.

Usually no effect: One must be extremely deficient in vitamin d3 and parathyroid hormone, or calcium itself, to have serum calcium actually go low as a result. Intoxicating yourself with vitamin d3, which probably u won't do, will give you some hypercalcemia if the controls don't kick in well. We have a saying in the lab, "look at the person, not the numbers." glad ur d3 deficiency was found & rx'd; it's too common.
