i have a pulmonary embolism after foot surgery about five weeks ago - i am on blood thinner tablets but i have a hot spot on my leg (same one i had surgery) its about midway between my ankle and my knee could this be another blood clot - my hips are?

Unlikely a : "deep" blood clot since blood thinners , especially the newer ones, are quite effective in preventing seep vein thrombosis (clots) which then could travel to the lungs. Rather I  suspect acute superficial phlebitis. Inform your treating consultant ASAP  since bacterial issues may be an issue here. In the meantime..APPLY HOT packs and elevate the leg.

Blood clot: A blood clot in the leg usually occurs in a large vein.  The clot is irritating to the vein and causes inflammation and swelling and pain.  The warmth is from the inflammatory process spreading through the vein.

i woke up  in pain from my leg. it has gotten worse thru the day. i have one spot above my ankle red n hot to the touch and another on my upper thigh. i cannot put weight on leg at all. the pain is almost unbearable. and i'm feeling flu like symptoms?

Usually an emergency: A middle-aged woman with new, bad leg pain from her ankle to her thigh is usually an emergency because doctors want to evaluate the patient to see if there is a blood clot in the leg. Such a clot can break off a chunk, flow to the lungs, and be fatal. There are other causes of leg pain and swelling, but always rule out the potentially lethal ones first. A serious infection can cause such pain too.

my husband has extreme swelling in both feet and ankles and hot spot on his right leg the size of my hand. gp tested and said no clot.  any thoughts?

Many Causes: He has been examined by a GP,Besides telling you that there is no clot,what tests if any did he/she ordered.Swelling inbothfeet&amp;legs can be caused by several causes.It can be due to kidney disease,heart disease&amp;heart failure,liver disease,from some prescription meds&amp;sometimes by eating too much salt.Also due to circulation problems and lymphatic system which usually is only on one sided.

Might be shingles: It depends on how long you've had these symptoms. If it's just been a day or two, watch for blisters or a red rash in the area. Early shingles will cause a burning pain in the involved area of skin before the rash comes out. If the pain has been there a while and radiating from back to buttlock you might be having muscle spasm, a pinched nerve, or even a kidney stone. See your doc.

Hot spots: These symptoms may be sensory nervous system disorders related to your MS. Your neurologist is best qualified to evaluate you for this and may be able to offer some treatment if he/she agrees that the cause may be the MS.

Hot spots: This is very unusual.  If the hot spots are symmetrical then perhaps you are having some type of peripheral neuritis.  If this continues it is best if you see your physician for an examination to determine the cause.
