hello. i got a drop of bleach in my eye. i immediately rinsed it with water for around 15 minutes and have been putting eye drops in every 5-10 minutes. my eye is sore and red but has no pain and no vision changes. should i go to the er?

: Have an ophthalmologist examine you for any eye damage ASAP. Bleach plus normal moisture in eye forms acid which can damage the eye and the damage may show up hours later. Only use water to rinse out your eyes. Do not rub your eye. Only let the eye specialist prescribe eye drops.

Eyes and Myths: From a medical perspective this does not sound like the wisest thing I have ever heard. It may not be harmful, but just the chance of damaging this vital organ would make me want to caution you about infection, burning, or irritation.  This practice you want to pursue is very unusual and from a medical perspective very dangerous.

No: Honey is full of bacteria.  Do not put it in your eyes.

NO: If correctly mixed it is not harmful.  1 drop of honey to 5 drops of water a 20% honey mix has been shown in some studies to help dry eyes. Multiple non-peer review articles say it helps. I like to see a peer reviewed article.  Many of my patients use the 20% honey mix and I have not seen any side effects. But claims of brighter looking eyes or lighter color eyes with honey use is false.

Do not put honey: in your eye! It's bee vomit! If your problem persists see a doctor!

got splashed in both eyes with hot oil while cooking,one eye is still hurting quite sharply but there's no irritation,burning,redness,or swelling and im four hours from home for the next 6 days. flushed with water and used cool towel,what should i do?

: Urgent care is one option, and a test for corneal abrasion may be able. Watch for signs of infection, vision change and redness.

left eye watering on/off for 5 mos. ive seen optometrist who said allergies & then dry eyes. ive been using otc drops/heat compress, yet only my left eye continues to water, oftn triggered by cold air or bending over. no redness/itching. thoughts??
