Symptomatic relief: Tips: sore throat – gargle with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 8 oz of water). Get strep test/culture if very sore. Congestion – saline nose drops or netti pot. For anti-inflammatory effect & mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.  Hydrate- lots of water/clear broth/ add honey & asmall amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea..  Fever/ pain – acetaminophen/ nsaid’s  rest!

Chicken soup!: No joke.  It's warm, salty and will make you thirsty and help encourage hydration!

in all seriousness, any hot soup will help with decongestion.  

I prefer a spicy soup like vietnamese pho or  shin ramyun. This helps my sinuses open up as well!

Effective home care will consist of treating symptoms as follows: for congeston-use an over the counter decongestant like sudafed, inhale steam, hot liquids like herbal teas, menthol or eucalyptus rubs, sore throat: salt water gargles, fever- acetaminophen, fatigue- rest and fluids, supplements-vitamin c and zinc.

Better see her doctor: Not sure what kind of home treatment you are referring to, it seems your daughter has an upper respiratory infection, possibly viral, affecting her lower respiratory tract a as well. Most of the time it is a self limited condition, but may progress given the description you just gave, wish you both wellness
