Very similar but...: Holistic medicine is a philosophy of healing that involves treating the whole person, mind, body & spirit, in the context of environment. Naturopathy is a style of medicine that is holistic in nature & uses natural therapies like vitamins & herbs. While naturopaths are holistic, other practitioners like md's, homeopaths, acupuncturists & chiropractors can be holistic as well. See comments for more:.

Not true: Naturopaths spend a great deal of time and effort promoting themselves by debunking conventional medicine.  But who do you think they go to when they are sick?  The tests you mention are mostly reliable but there is a small margin of error for any tests.  To say these are unreliable at the 50% level is marketing and untrue.

Mental health: There are some therapies that are holisitc and very helpful.  If you have confidence in the providers I do not see any reason not to see them.

Bastyr: www.bastyr.edu  is as close to an on-the-level naturopathic group as you're going to find.  Anybody who's offering "natural medicine" as a complete system of health care is kidding you and perhaps themselves. The folks at bastyr seems interested in figuring out what natural remedies actually work, just as the law forces mainstream physicians to do with our systems of diagnosis and treatment.

There are...: none. The AAOS recommended that glucosamine, viscosupplementation, and acupuncture are worthless. Taking tumeric with high curcuminoids and omega-3 can help!

Can be helpful: For mild to moderate depression, a naturopath may be helpful. If you haven't already, see your doctor and make sure your symptoms are from depression and not an underlying medical condition (i.e. Thyroid or hormone fluctuations). There are many alternative treatments available.  If you find yourself in a severe depression, medication and therapy work best.

Yes: Naturopaths claim any product that is not developed through standard fda approved therapeutics as in their domain.  The profitability of these products is not lost on pharmacies and most carry some of them.  They usually do not carry the exotic ones however.

NO: Obesity is from the quality and quantity of diet. Pills are the indications of how artificial we have become in our every day lives.
