Cough: this can be secondary to acid reflux which is common with the progression of pregnancy. try having some Tums (calcium carbonate) tablets, and see if it helps. if it is a cold  it is unlikely the baby will get it.

Mgt: It can take up to three weeks to recover from a viral illness. If her mom has a nasal swab to screen for respiratory viruses, this will be provide additional information. Other possible causes include pertussis, is there nasal congestion or drainage? If so, infant nasal drops and gentle suction can alleviate post nasal drip.
I would suggest an evaluation particularly if there is fever.

Babies can have papillomas on their vocal cords (especially if the mother had known genital warts at some time in her life).

See below: From my point of view as an allopathic physician, i don't recommend any otc meds except tylenol (acetaminophen) for infant.  The i don't know if there have been any controlled studies looking at the efficacy and safety of the ingredients in hylands 4 kids cold and cough, therefore, i can't say whether they are safe.

Interesting: From your description I would suspect the kid has a chronic condition- asthma as a background to other incidental illnesses. I would consult with a pediatric pulmonologist, usually affiliated with children's hospitals/ medical schools.  Write down all you remember about the issues &amp; bring records of hospital or ER care with you. After reviewing the data &amp; some testing they could sort this out.
