No myth here: There are no cells in skin that have receptors that HIV needs to infect the cell. Skin, in general, is a barrier to most contagious diseases. This simple fact is so basic and so well known that it is getting increasingly worrisome that you cannot get past this. People do not get HIV through skin. Simple. True. Scientifically and clinically proven.

Lots: People can have a fear that touching objects, like sharing dishes or sitting on a toilet seat, or casual contact like hugging or shaking hands, can trasnmit HIV or hcv. These viruses are only transmitted with exchange of blood or other body fluids (like during sex).

PEP works, low risk: Post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is not a myth. It works. However, there are no data on exact effectiveness for various kinds of exposure or at different viral loads. With an HIV viral load of 40, transmission of the virus is unlikely even with a high risk exposure. If you also take PEP starting as soon as 2 hours, it is extremely unlikely you will be infected.
